  Comics Comic Posters

A poster presentation offers the opportunity for better acceptance, understanding, and appreciation of one’s research work. It is a good avenue for multi-author papers. A research work will remain confined to the walls of the research room or the institute unless and until it is brought forth to the wide array of audiences.

Poster presentation is akin to show business. The more a poster becomes attractive and appealing by the use of descriptive illustrations the more it expects to draw a large section of viewers. Illustrations can increase the audience attention, interest, and retention. But only crafty illustrations, glowing colors, or delicate computerized graphics do not substitute for content.

Typically posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly textual. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and convey information. Posters may be used for many purposes, and they are a frequent tool of advertisers (particularly of events, musicians and films), propagandists, protestors and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works. Another type of posters, the educational posters are about a particular subject meant for particular purposes.

Many people also collect posters, and some famous posters have themselves become quite valuable.

History of Posters

The history of posters can be traced as far back as the 15th century, when artisans handmade each and every sheet. While a painstaking process indeed, it ushered in a new age of providing news, announcements, and other information to passers-by on the streets.

The formidable industrial rise of the 19th century ushered in the beginnings of mechanization, which opened a new area in publishing. Like most print media, graphic arts were dependent on the invention of the printing press. This allowed for the mass production of all shapes and sizes of posters as well. The technique that is used to print posters is called lithography. This is printing by placing ink on a series of metal or stone ("lithos") carvings.

Comic Posters started appearing in the market with the popularity of some of the internationally famous comic characters such as Tin-tin, Tom and Jerry, Mickey Mouse and other Disney comic characters.

Movie Posters

A poster is a visual display of bold design, color and message intends to catch the attention of the viewer by roping in the exact idea he carries in his mind. A poster becomes all the more successful when the viewer comfortably relates to the idea. It is then, a true reflection of the viewer’s inner characteristics.

How the Movie Poster came to be? The first posters were created in the mid 19th century in France as advertisements for new products. In less than ten years, the use of posters spread from France throughout the rest of Europe. They were also used to promote drama, operas and other major events in Paris and across the country of France. But Jules Cheret, "The Father of the Poster," was the first person to give importance to the poster as an artistic image. In 1889 Chéret was awarded the Legion of Honor for creating a "new branch of art."

Background of Movie Poster

The film industry quickly discovered that vibrantly colored posters were an easy way to sell their pictures. The collection of movies posters has become a major hobby.

Originally, movies posters were produced for the exclusive use of the theaters exhibiting the film the poster was created for. The movie posters were required to be returned to the distributor after the film was discontinued in the theater. In the United States, movie posters were returned usually to a nation-wide operation called the National Screen Service (NSS) which printed and distributed most of the movie posters for the studios between 1940 and 1984. After the National Screen Service ceased most movie poster printing and distribution operations in 1985, some of the movie posters which they had stored in warehouses around the United States ended up in the hands of private collectors and movie poster dealers. Beginning in the 1980s, the movie studios began taking over direct production and distribution of their posters from the National Screen Service and the process of making and distributing movie posters became decentralized. Today, movie posters are generally produced in much larger quantities than necessary to promote a film at a theater, because they are also sold directly to the public by retailers who purchase them at wholesale prices from the studio distributors. Modern movie posters are also often sold from websites set up by the studio to promote a given film. Because of this, modern movie posters are not considered rare and can be readily purchased. Most famous amongst the film poster artists are Drew Struzan, Saul Bass and Bob Peak.

Music

What is a Poster?

A poster is typically a printed paper announcement that is displayed publicly and functions as a tool for the promotion of a product, an event, or a sentiment or cause through image and/or text. A poster's principal task is to be noticed: it must attract attention and influence the passerby.

Background of Music Poster

Music poster is a marriage of fine art and an innovative presentation of music theory that charms all connoisseurs of music. Like a musical roadmap, the cross-reference system developed for the music poster allows anyone to find and play any chord or scale, in any key, anywhere on the instrument, even if they don't read music

This totally radical music poster shows how to play the hard rock and heavy metal lead and rhythm guitar used by today's rockers. The music poster explores rock styles in great detail, explaining the chords, scales, and the guitar techniques used by the biggest stars playing rock and heavy metal. These music posters also feature a classic collection of vintage bass guitars and will show you how to play hot bass and how to hold down the rhythm section in any band playing today's popular music.

With the development of printing in color the poster took another major step forward. Many important nineteenth century artists eagerly embraced this medium (the work of Toulouse-Lautrec is probably the most famous example).

Later in the same century the development of the halftone allowed the new medium of photography to be incorporated into the poster. Half-toning is an art of converting a continuous explicit image into a series of properly arranged dots. As newer and newer technologies evolved, photographic posters graduated to become very important tools in advertising and propaganda. In the 1960s the poster was given a fresh creative boost by a new wave of artists treating political and popular music themes, and this trend continues today.

Humor

Introduction to Posters

A poster is a visual media through which attraction of the viewer is drawn to publicize certain thoughts and actions. Theater companies and (book) printers in London and Paris were the first to make use of the poster. Food or household items were not really advertised until the second half of the 19th century when more goods were offered and similar products began competing for their customers. Although lithography was invented in 1798, it was at first too slow and expensive for poster production. Most posters were woodblocks or metal engravings with little color or design. This all changed with Cheret’s "three stone lithographic process," a breakthrough which allowed artists to achieve every color in the rainbow with as little as three stones - usually red, yellow and blue - printed in careful registration

Background of Humor Posters

Humor within the health care setting apparently can serve to facilitate positive patient-provider interactions and to create a patient-centered environment. Humor posters provide an ethnographic account of the patient to start therapeutic activity sessions within a hospital unit designed to promote therapeutic humor. According to a survey humor posters lift the atmosphere to evoke spontaneous humor that emerged out of interactions. Humor appeared secondary to the primary outcome of promoting patients' happiness and well being. Humor is also shown to be a primary mechanism for the establishment of individuality, as participants combine the shared meanings and play with the shared parameters of the group in idiosyncratic ways

A Brief History of Poster

A poster is usually a printed paper announcement or advertisement that is exhibited publicly. Whether promoting a product, event, or a sentiment (such as patriotism), the poster must work towards catching the attention of the passerby. By extension, the term poster is used to denote a paper panel printed for display as a novelty or as a work of art. Although printed public advertisements can be traced to the 15th century, the poster as it exists today evolved in 1860, as a result of the invention of lithography, which facilitated easy and cheap production of brilliantly colored posters.

The poster as we know it today started to develop after 1860. Before Alois Senefelder's discovery of the process of lithography in 1798, most posters were produced as monochrome wood or metal engravings. Even in the early lithographic prints, colors were seldom used and the illustration was never integrated with the text. Jules Cheret, the father of the modern poster changed everything. Cheret has the distinction of introducing a combination of images and text with vivid, direct designs and bright colors in large coherent shapes. His central motif was a happy and laughing Parisian woman.

Television

A Brief History of Poster

A poster is usually a printed paper announcement or advertisement that is exhibited publicly. There is no set way to accomplish success through this; success can stem, for example, from the instantaneous impact of a concise, striking design or from the sumptuous appeal of an ornate work of art. By extension, the term poster is used to denote a paper panel printed for display as a novelty or as a work of art. Although printed public advertisements can be traced to the 15th century, the poster as it is understood today did not emerge until around 1860, encouraged by the invention of lithography that facilitated cheap and easy production of colored posters.

Background of creation of Television Posters

The first of the great modern poster artists, Jules Cheret, began his career in 1867 with a theatrical poster announcing a performance by Sarah Bernhardt. His captivating depictions of the nocturnal entertainers of Paris, depicted in clear and radiant colors made waves in the Paris displays for the last 30 years of the 19th century and also attracted others to the medium. The result was extraordinary diversity of style, from the folk art imagery of anonymous lithographers to major works by the best known of the poster artists, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Lautrec's posters of the 1890s, characterized by bold, dramatic designs, are lively and sensitive depictions of Parisian personalities. Interest in the poster was heightened by the appearance in the 1890s of the style known as Art Nouveau, characterized by flowing, organic lines, elegant grace, and a richly complex symbolism. Because it combined decorative brilliance with a faith that fine art could be popular and useful, the movement found the poster a natural form. The undisputed master of Art Nouveau was a Czech living in Paris, Alphonse Mucha. He produced his first poster for Sarah Bernhardt that had an exotic Byzantine ornament. His subtle use of color made him a success overnight; it was just the beginning. He proceeded to leave a legacy of posters that ranged from theatre announcements to advertisements for chocolate and cigarette papers that remain unsurpassed in their beauty and innovation. Among the many other manifestations of the Art Nouveau poster were, in Paris, the elegant works of Georges de Feure and Eugene Grasset; in The Netherlands, the stylized posters of Jan Toorop; in Austria, the elegantly ordered works of Koloman Moser and Alfred Roller; and, finally, the work of Will Bradley, who brought the style to the United States. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the poster became an art that could influence history. Prior to the ascendancy of motion pictures and television, it was politically the most important of all visual media. It was easily produced and immediate in impact, and it could be posted wherever there was a public to see it.

Why should one buy Television Posters?

What is a poster? A brief history of the poster

At the simplest level, a poster is any piece of paper hung up in order to communicate information. Posters have a long history. The earliest examples were probably handwritten government/church edicts or proclamations; one can only speculate how far back in history these might have existed: possibly in Greek society several hundreds of years BC (although no pre-medieval examples exist). Later, beginning in the sixteenth century, posters were used to advertise plays, and these sometimes incorporated art work - a feature that we now consider typical of a poster. Much earlier examples may have existed. With the invention of the printing press the poster became a new and dynamic means of communication, mixing graphics and text to advertise businesses and announce important events.

Although lithography was invented in 1798, it was at first too slow and expensive for poster production. Most posters were woodblocks or metal engravings with little color or design. This all changed with Cheret’s "three stone lithographic process," a breakthrough which allowed artists to achieve every color in the rainbow with as little as three stones - usually red, yellow and blue - printed in careful registration. This ability to combine word and image in such an attractive and economical format finally made the lithographic poster a powerful innovation. Starting in the 1870s in Paris, it became the dominant means of mass communication in the rapidly growing cities of Europe and America. The streets of Paris, Milan and Berlin were quickly transformed into the "art gallery of the street," and ushered in the modern age of advertising.

What is Photography?

Photography is the process of taking pictures by the use of cameras which captures light on a chemically coated film. Light particles are reflected or emitted from objects are recorded onto a sensitive medium. The camera helps in forming images of the objects on a photographic film. By controlling the amount of exposure on a charged coupled device (CCD), photographers record the true image of the objects.

The process of taking Photography

Camera controls the total amount of light reaching the film medium. The amount of light is changed proportionately with the duration of exposure, aperture of the lens, and focal length of the lens .Changing any of these controls in a sure fire way alters the exposure. In automatic camera these control are being operated automatically without intervention of the operator. In other words this automatic operation helps amateur photographers to take stunning photographs.

The term shutter speed refers to the duration of the exposure and is typically measured in fractions of a second. Aperture refers to an f-number (focal ratio), which is proportional to the ratio of the focal length to the diameter of the aperture. By combining various shutter speeds and aperture perfect exposure can be achieved. Through proper camera movement exposure varies depending on the shutter speed, the aperture (and focal length of the lens) determining the depth of field, which refers to the range of distances from the lens that will be in focus.

Image capture is only part of the image forming process. Regardless of material, some process must be employed to render the latent image captured by the camera into the final photographic work. This process consists of two steps, development, and printing.

Printing of photographs

In course of printing process of the capture photographs modifications can be carried out to the print by several controls. Most of these controls are in tandem with the controls during image capturing exercises, while some are exclusive to the printing process. Most controls have equivalent digital touch, but some create different results.

What is Museum Art?

According to The Museums Association the term ‘museum’ is defined as :"A museum is an institution which collects, documents, preserves, exhibits and interprets material evidence and associated information for the public benefit." In the year 1998 The Museum Association has newly defined museum as:

“Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, safeguard and make accessible artifacts and specimens, which they hold in trust for society.” According to the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Statutes a museum is defined as a "permanent institution in the service of society and of its development, open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits, for purposes of study, education, enjoyment, the tangible and intangible evidence of people and their environment." The museum art can be described as the types of art which find place in the hallowed portals or galleries of museum for public viewing.

Contemporary Art

What is Contemporary art?

The golden era of contemporary art starts from the year 1960 onwards. Contemporary art refers to the radical new approach to art concerning social and political interests with the concept of new media including installation art, use of technology in art and a new vigor in painting. The main pivotal patron of contemporary art happens to be the contemporary art galleries. There are some significant differences between “post-modern art” and “contemporary art”. The gamut of “post-modern art” includes the period of contemporary art and as well as the time before and after it.

Background of Contemporary Art

The history of contemporary art goes back to the era of artist Robert Smithson in the year of 1960. He is considered pioneer in the genre of Land Art movement of the late 1960s.Other stalwarts in the field of the then contemporary art includes Walter De La Mare, Alice Aycock, Michael Heizer and James Turrell. Later a new genre of Conceptual Art movement was based on the movement initiated by Land Art movement To better understand the contemporary art it is required to know its base which is considered as the art of modernism. Marcel Duchamp is considered as the pioneer of post-modern art practice. The avant-garde idea of Duchamp for making revolutionary art form is thought to be the germinating seed of contemporary art.

No critics of art can ever ignore the developments that have been happened from the year 1990 in the artistic firmament Despite the fact that there are some conflicting ideas between art critics in exactly pinpointing the start of contemporary art form, the school of art critics opine that the lack of organization into a coherent movement remains to be the sole features of contemporary art. Generally, contemporary art form is marked by radical ideas, approaches, and trends. It is often seen that practitioners of contemporary art have varied interests in different areas of art and they wished to be known that they do never stick to any single idea of contemporary art. The most observable part of contemporary art form is that artists’ inclination of exploring uncharted vistas is nothing new, instead it had been running since the year 1960.Though it has been seen that these new trends are influenced by some particular ideology but in a major way it is clearly be influenced by the medium of artistic expression. Contemporary art practice is noticed to be shunning the ‘isms’ of Modernism after having incorporating similar style, philosophical or aesthetic stance, or time or location which can be defined as a chronologically organized and interrelated series of movements.

Contemporary Art Posters

Contemporary art generally has a few followers, but then those who follow, follow it all vigor and energy. Pictorials of contemporary art are rare and valued. The images however are collectibles in the form of contemporary art posters. With diverse topics, contemporary art posters have always been in demand. The subjects as diverse as ethics of cloning, sliding of  politics,  health of economies, gender issues, threats of terror, vagaries of war, trampling of human rights, gagging of press, subversion of democracy  and any mundane day-to-day issues as subjects. Here lies the difference and thus the fervency in following.  Whereas the notion of art has all along been characterized as expressing beauty and aesthetic appeal, the contemporary art beg to differ in those respects. Contemporary art happens to be synonymous with missionary motivation on the part of the artist.
